Japan & Shibori at Make Your Own Havaianas 2016 #MYOH2016

One of the events I look forward to every year is MYOH or Make Your Own Havaianas. I get giddy from excitement whenever I get my invite or whenever I see announcements or posters online. I'm a huge fan of the brand and I always bring a pair with me whenever I travel. It's one of my travel staples. This year, Havaianas paid homage to its origin with a Shibori-inspired theme and it's just perfect timing because Ana, Sarah and I are heading to the land of the rising sun this June! :) Photos and stories from the event below...

 Love the set-up!

When people think of Havaianas, the first country that comes to mind is Brazil, where the world's favorite flip-flop brand was born. Digging a little deeper in its history, Havaianas actually originated 54 years ago with great Eastern Zen influence. Its creation was inspired by the Japanese Zori, the traditional sandals that are made of fabric straps and rice straw soles. Marks of its Asian heritage are still evident on the rice pattern that’s embedded on every sole until today. Didn't know that! :)

Ana and Ava busy working on their pairs!

On its 11th year, the biggest and most anticipated customization event in the country, was all about the ancient art of Shibori, a Japanese fabric-dyeing technique that makes use of indigo shades to create beautiful patterns on cloths for kimonos and obi sashes.

 Alyssa, Chin & Kat

Just like previous years, celebrity assemblers joined this year's event to assist lucky customers in personalizing their flip-flops! Bailey May, Ylona Garcia, Julia Barretto, Kiefer Ravena, Laura Lehmann, Von Pessumal, Mika Reyes, and Jeron Teng added fun and excitement to the already festive event.

 This year's commemorative design!

Had a hard time mixing and matching soles & straps!

And choosing pins!

Alyssa and I had a hard time choosing our designs! As usual, I opted for a slim fitting sole. I seriously considered getting a commemorative pair but my instincts told me not to. Haha. I want my pair, classic yet stylish. As always. After choosing our soles, straps & pins, we headed to the assembly line...

 We're ready!
